Low Sodium IconNutritional needs differ from one person to the next. This is why Mom’s Meals strives to offer a variety of different menu options to accommodate the needs of our customers. One option is our lower sodium menu, which features refrigerated, fully-prepared meals that are lower in sodium and saturated fat to support heart health and lower blood pressure.

What is a lower sodium meal?

Sodium is, essentially, salt. It’s an essential mineral for the human body. Regulated by your kidneys, sodium helps control the fluid balance and muscle function of your body.

It is most commonly consumed from processed foods.

Pepper SteakHow can sodium impact my personal health?

Sodium increases the water in your blood vessels, generating more blood flow and in turn increasing your blood pressure. Hence, the more sodium in your body, the greater your risk for high blood pressure. Too much sodium can lead to hypertension and kidney damage, and even lead to heart attacks and other forms of cardiovascular disease.

Lower sodium intake can reduce the risk of heart disease and stroke.

Foods that are high in sodium include salted nuts, regular and processed cheese, canned vegetables, pizza, and meats that have been smoked, cured, salted or canned.

You can cut down on the amount of sodium in your diet by eating more home-cooked meals, purchasing salt-free or reduced salt products, and seasoning your foods with different spices and herbs instead of reaching for the salt shaker.
